After surgery, you may be asked to use a continuous passive motion, or CPM, machine. After shoulder surgery, we will typically begin using the machine two days after surgery. This will be after your first physical therapy appointment. After knee surgery, we will typically begin immediately after surgery, and then continue the machine at home for a period of 3 to 6 weeks.
