My adventure started 30 years ago when I tore the ACL in my right knee snow skiing. At that time, I continued on with sports and ended up injuring myself over and over. Doctors gave me different methods for my knee – draining it, braces and different apparatuses to make it through.
Later in life, I started racing motocross and ended up tearing the ACL in my left knee. That knee, at the time, was my stability leg and losing that gave me two injured legs. It left me very uncomfortable doing any sports. For the last 10 years, my knees have been ‘bone-on-bone.’
I had seen Dr. Crovetti over the years and he had suggested knee replacements at that time but I was just kind of waiting thinking I’d be OK, not knowing what the end result would be.
About a year ago, my wife and I decided it was time to do this. I was at the point where playing a round of golf or being on my feet for a long period of time – I could barely walk at the end of the day.
This inspired me to setup an appointment with Dr. Crovetti. I sat down with him, he looked at my x-rays and said ‘We talked about this 10 years ago. It’s time!’
I made my appointment for my first knee replacement and at the same time, scheduled my second knee replacement as well – 5 months apart. Everything from the staff to the Coronado Recovery Suites was amazing!
After returning home, I wanted to push myself with the physical therapy and recovery so I could be what Dr. Crovetti told me I could be. After 8 weeks I was actually able to play a round of golf and it felt completely different. I had stability again and was basically learning to walk again. Once the second knee was done, I had even more stability and it’s just been amazing! Every day it gets better and better and it’s now more comfortable to walk than it is to sit. I just want to keep walking because it feels so great!
